Spode Jasmine Platter: Blue Floral Transferware Cake Plate (13 Inch)

Rare find at such a large size. This 13" round platter honors Spode's "Jasmine" pattern, first introduced in 1825. This plate was reintroduced in the 1990s as part of Spode's Blue Room display which exhibited their blue and white Transferware from archival patterns. The floral pattern is decorated onto the platter using Spode's underglaze print technique from a hand engraved copper plate (this process is mentioned on the backside of the platter). This platter is made of Earthenware, and glazed to make it waterproof.

At 13 inches round, this platter can serve many purposes – serving platter, cake plate, or to add to a decorative display of blue and white dishes.

Condition: Excellent – no chips, cracks, stains, crazing, or fading.

Spode History – Founded in 1770 by Josiah Spode in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Spode played a major role in the worldwide success of English pottery by developing transfer printing in underglaze blue on fine earthenware in 1783–1784, and then in 1790 for developing the fine bone china formula in England.
