Vintage Salins Les Bains Majolica Pitcher: French Summer Fruits Decor

This Majolica pitcher was made by Salins Les Bain in France. Dating to the 1950s, the design depicts lemons, raspberries, pears, cherries, and lush green leaves. Painted in a soft pastel color palette, and finished with a Majolica glaze. This type of pitcher or jug was used mainly for decoration, but can be used for serving beverages since it's glazed inside to accommodate for liquids.

In 1857, Salins Les Bains Factory began in Lorraine, near the border with Switzerland. They specialized in the production of fine ceramics. In 1925, the Salins Les Bains Factory was awarded a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris. In 1968, the Salins Les Bains Clay Factory was integrated into the Sarreguemines Clay Company.

Condition: In great condition – no chips, cracks, or crazing. Slight wear on the inside of pitcher, near spout (see last photo).

Measurements: 7.5 inches in length (with handle), 6 inches in length (without handle), 6.5 inches wide, 6.75 inches in height. Pitcher opening measures 4.75 inches x 4 inches
