Antique Nippon Footed Bowl: Hand-Painted Floral Moriage Porcelain

This delicate, hand painted footed bowl was made between 1911 -1921 in Japan. Crafted in bright white porcelain with scalloped edges, it has an intricate raised design of light blue flowers within an orange scroll pattern. In the center of the bowl is a raised gold medallion which complements the double gold trim on the edge and feet. Decorated using the Moriage technique which is a process of applying layers of enamel on top of each other to build a three-dimensional effect. Moriage was a favorite decorative motif during the Nippon period (1890-1921).

The RC in the maker's mark stands for Royal China or Royal Crockery which was made by Noritake. Nippon is a generic term used to describe Japanese export wares shipped to Europe and the United States between late 1891 and 1921.

Condition: a light scratch on the underside (please see in photo). Otherwise, no chips, cracks, crazing or fading. Feel free to message me if you have additional questions or would like more photos.
