Vintage Purinton Pottery Jar: Hand-Painted Apple Pattern, 1940s Kitchen Decor

This is a vintage drip jar with lid from the 1940s, made by Purinton Pottery in their popular hand-painted Apple pattern. Crafted in cream-colored slipware, this piece features bold brush-stroked red apples accented with green leaves and rich burgundy vertical bands. The underside is clearly marked Purinton Slip Ware, a hallmark of the company’s mid-century American pottery.

Purinton Pottery operated in Wellsville, Ohio from 1936 to 1959, specializing in hand-decorated slipware with a distinctly folk-art, functional style. Their Apple pattern became an icon of 1940s and 1950s American kitchens, and this drip jar was originally designed for use near the stove to collect bacon grease or cooking drippings. Today, it serves beautifully as a nostalgic accent in farmhouse, cottagecore, or country-inspired interiors, or as a charming storage container for countertop essentials.
