My Philosophy

As William Morris once said, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”

I’ve adopted that philosophy both in my own home and in the pieces I choose for Spot of Vintage. I love surrounding myself with items that bring beauty, character, and a sense of history to a space. Every piece I select is chosen with that same intention, so you can create a home that feels personal, thoughtful, and collected over time.

The items I offer are vintage or antique because I value the craftsmanship, artistry, and individuality that are often harder to find today. I take pride in thoroughly researching each piece and sharing meaningful details in my descriptions, so you can shop with greater confidence and appreciation for the item’s story.

About Me

Suzette Percival - Founder and Curator

Growing up in New York City, I often visited museums and galleries and developed an appreciation for artists and decorative arts from different periods. My father, who was a New York journalist, helped shape my interest in the past through his own experiences living in the early to mid-20th century. My mother, who was French, also gave me a strong appreciation for the beauty of French culture and its artisans.

I was also fortunate to serve as the Marketing Director for Rookwood Pottery, a company founded in 1880 that won the Grand Prix at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. My time there gave me a deeper appreciation for ceramic artistry, craftsmanship, and the creative process behind meaningful objects. That experience continues to influence how I source and present pieces for Spot of Vintage.

My Process

Background (1)

As the founder of Spot of Vintage, I take pride in offering a thoughtful and personal shopping experience. I personally scout, research, photograph, and prepare each item for shipment with care. I love searching a wide variety of places — including estate sales, auction houses, outdoor markets, and antique stores — to find pieces that feel special, beautiful, and worth preserving.

As a lover of history, I enjoy researching the background of the items I sell and sharing that information in my descriptions whenever possible. I’m always happy to answer questions and provide additional photos so you can feel confident before making a purchase.

While Spot of Vintage uses this website to share helpful information, purchases can be made through my Etsy shop. When you click on shop links throughout this website, you’ll be taken directly to my Etsy shop to browse available items and purchase securely.

I also personally prepare each sold item for shipment with great care, using protective packaging and attention to detail to help it arrive safely. Prompt shipping and careful packing are a very important part of the experience I want every customer to have.
