Antique Flow Blue 10 inch Dinner Plate – Burgess & Campbell in Balmoral Royal Blue Pattern

This antique 10-inch Flow Blue dinner plate is in the Balmoral pattern (also known as “Royal Blue”), and was made by Burgess & Campbell in Trenton, New Jersey. Produced between 1879 and 1888, this richly decorated porcelain plate features an ornate floral and scroll design in deep cobalt blue, accented with remnants of gold trim along its gently scalloped edge. The flow blue decoration — soft and blurred by design — is accented with inky blue foliage and ornate Victorian scrolls. The glaze shows consistent fine crazing throughout, typical for its age.

Marked on the reverse with an underglaze stamp that reads “Royal Blue B-C Porcelain”, identifying the pattern and maker. Unlike most Flow Blue china, which was made in England, this piece is notable for its American origin, made in Trenton, New Jersey by Burgess & Campbell, a key part of the International Pottery Company. The firm operated under this name from 1879 until the early 1900s and was known for producing high-quality Victorian porcelain for the domestic and export markets.

This is a collectible example of 19th-century American Flow Blue — perfect for collectors of Victorian ceramics, and early American porcelain.
