He writes: “On countless occasions over the years, as I have walked through these autumn woodlands, these gallinaceous creatures have burst forth out of hiding from right beneath my feet.” The artwork captures this moment — a solitary ruffed grouse standing alert among fallen leaves and birch trunks in a vibrant northern forest.
