Purinton Intaglio Brown Stripe Plates, Set of 2 Hand Painted 1950s

This vintage set of two Purinton Slip Ware dinner plates features the Intaglio Brown Stripe pattern, first introduced in 1950. Each plate measures 9 5/8 inches, and is hand painted with bold brown brush-stroke striping over an ivory slip body, accented with incised floral motifs. The name Intaglio refers to the carved or incised floral decoration that distinguishes this line. Both plates are backstamped “Purinton Slip Ware Hand Painted” on the underside.

The Purinton Pottery Company of Shippenville, Pennsylvania, produced slip-decorated pottery from the 1930s until its closure in 1959. Known for handmade charm and rustic mid-century style, Purinton pieces remain highly collectible. These two dinner plates are excellent for display, completing a set, or serving at a retro-inspired table.

Condition: On one of the plates there are scuff marks and a hairline crack on the underside and light scratch on the front side (see last three photos).
