This elegant set of six french porcelain wall plates are from the Lafayette Legacy series by Henri D'Arceau & Fils in Limoges, France. Each 8.5-inch plate is first edition, hand-painted and individually numbered on the back. Produced between 1973 and 1975, the series commemorates pivotal events from the Marquis de Lafayette's role in the American Revolutionary War. Framed with a neoclassical floral border, the center designs are all rendered in a delicate palette of blue, orange, and gold. This set will add a touch of refinement to a wall or cabinet display.
This set of six plates include the following scenes:
Battle of Brandywine
Message to Franklin
Secret Contract
City Tavern Meeting
North Island Landing
Siege at Yorktown
Each plate is signed with the artist's monogram “AR” and features French-language text detailing the historical context on the reverse, along with the Henri D'Arceau Limoges France backstamp and production number. Henri D'Arceau & Fils was known for producing museum-quality collector plates and collaborated with skilled artists and historians. This limited series celebrates Lafayette’s unique position as both a French nobleman and a hero of American independence. These plates are perfect for collectors of Limoges porcelain, Francophile decorators, or those with an interest in early American history.
