This set of two vintage Ucagco Moss Rose teacup and snack plate made in Japan during the 1950s. Moss Rose patten features hand painted pink rose and green leaves with gold trim. The teacups are footed, and the snack plates have scalloped shape edge.
This combination of cup and plate is called a "Tennis Set." Introduced in England, a "Tennis Set" conveniently held your afternoon tea and tea sandwich or scone while attending a tennis match (commonly offered at Wimbleton).
This set makes an ideal "tea for two" gift set and a thoughtful tea lovers gift. Produced by Ucagco (United China and Glass Company), this set is a lovely example of mid-century Japanese craftsmanship.
