Vintage 1977 LPGA Championship Plate: Bay Tree Golf Decor

This vintage 1977 LPGA Championship commemorative plate features a painted glass depiction of the Bay Tree Plantation Golf Clubhouse and surrounding grounds in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Made to honor the 23rd LPGA Championship held June 9–12, 1977, this rectangular 8 ¾" x 6 ¾" display plate captures a momentous event in women’s golf history. Crafted on glass with a classic wood-tone frame, this piece is a rare tribute to the first major women’s golf tournament held in South Carolina.

The 1977 championship saw Japanese golfer Hisako “Chako” Higuchi claim victory, marking the first time a Japanese player won on the LPGA Tour. Higuchi, later inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, became a transformative figure in international women’s golf. The Bay Tree Plantation Golf Courses, once a prominent site in American golf, were closed in 2006, making this piece a meaningful relic of a bygone era in golf history.
